Are there any markings on the drawer locks by any chance ?
That could be a very old safe, although exact dating is impossible one can make assumptions based on the design.
The lock is pure warded, no barrons levers which could date it to prior to 1787. The casting of iron began at coalbrookdale in the early 1700’s but I don’t think they began making safes until later.
It should be noted that although the lack of levers suggest prior to 1787 there is a good chance that it is one of the many lower priced safes made for the requirements of the 1813 Rose Act which required that every parish church purchase a secure coffer to store their registry books etc.
Do you know the history of the building you found it in ? Was it built in ?
