Padlock ID

My first post here!

I have a picture of a lock that I would like to identify. This lock was listed in the Chrysler parts catalog for 1970 as part #3412543 as shown on the parts tags. The story is that Chrysler started ofering these locks when Plymouth and Dodge dealers started having hoods stolen (lift off fibreglass hoods) from their lots at night.

This is where I come in… I’m doing a restoration of a 69 Plymouth A12 Roadrunner and would love to find a pair of these locks.

The only thing I have to go by is this picture. The diameter of the shackle would be somewhere around 3/16″ or so, maybe smaller, but not any larger.

Any ideas of manufactuer or model or where I could find any?

All I have is this pic…. nothing else. No lock, no keys…. just a pic that someone had taken years ago.

I did just blow the pic up though.. I think one side of the key has VALSCO or something similar on it.

When I originally saw those locks I thought the brand was Viro. But, the marking on the keys looked too long for that. What you noticed started making me remember something and I verified it with a friend who used to be part owner of the WAterbury Lock and Speciality COmpany, WALSCO,. In around 1980 WALSCO purchased those locks from Viro and sold them in the US. They had Viro mark the keys and locks WALSCO.

WALSCO has been out of business for many years, Viro is still around. Do a search for them on the web and you should be able to find someone who sells that brand. You might have to go to Canada where they are fairly popular. Hope that helps,

I goggled Viro and found the locks! They look the same now as they did then, so I just need to find a source to buy from.
