Thanks for having me here, it’s always great to find new boards with such open and willingness to share their vast knowledge.

I’m not a lock collector, I spend my days and day ..and wee hrs of the night collecting and rebuilding clocks, gramophones, my beloved
Victor Victrolas.

What I love to collect are old stuffs, LOL, A Lot of RR items, and old busline tokens, transit tokens, and as far as RR items, omgosh, if it’ll fit in my pocket as I hike the rails of Colorado, it comes backs with me, once I even carried/lugged/tugged a switch and part of a rail 5.5 miles back to a trailhead.Like hauling a monstrous anvil.
And I have countless dated nails. And some Lanterns.
My neighbor thinks I’m nuts, I’ve made a river rock (brought them back one by one too) waterpool out of the many ties and rail stuff, he sez I’m trying to build a locomotive in the backyard. 😉

I have no locks but this is my first one.I’ve been using it as a key ring holder. I didn’t find it a friend gave it to me.
I don’t sell or trade any of my items that come to visit me. I like to enjoy them for awhile, and my clocks & Victrolas go to new homes, I give them away after helping them along on there journey thru time.
They are all guests in my home for just a little while, we were meant to visit a bit, just long enough for me to enjoy their charm, give them a little TLC
pack them a sandwich and send them on their way to visit with someone else.

Been meaning to try and find more info on this lock for a while now, and maybe turn up a key for it if possible.

I love reading sites like this, there’s so many great questions and insight.

Here is the lock I currently use daily for a key ring, I have the wrangler jeans to prove the hole in the back pockets. lol 😃

I know it’s from Yale & Towne , barrel key, maybe around the late 1800s, it has a number on the back as you can see…stamped 10943

Hello & welcome

While I trust that others more knowledgeable than I on US padlocks will comment in due course I can quote from another post on the site which advised that Yale ceased using the trefoil logo in 1929 so the lock must pre-date then.

The lock being numbered is interesting I did’nt know Yale did that with padlocks, again I am sure that others will comment.

This lock does not open with a standard type key…..it has several wards and levers in it so it has a unique cut key. A locksmith will have to hand cut a key for this lock by impression. I have done many of these keys; the hardest part is finding key blanks. Here is one I did that is similar:

I had a handful of these moden old style key blanks, but they went pretty quick on projects like these. Good luck with your key quest!
