Small lever padlock

There isn’t much by way or markings to go by, but can anybody tell me approx age of, or anything else about this little lever padlock?

I don’t have a picture of the sides of the lock, but each of the four rivets that hold the front and back plates together also has a corresponding ‘pin’ at the edge of the lock, securing the strip of brass that forms the sides of the lock. The curtain is a solid cylinder of brass with a slot cut into it for the key.

Never seen one like it,but it looks like a lock made in India. I don’t think it’s very old,more than likely a tourist trinket. Just my 2cents worth

Oldbiscuit, judging by construction and the letter stamping on the front, I’d say you are right on the money with the India guess. Even though it looks East Indian, it is still a really cool little lock. I have never seen this design before either but it has my attention…….I want one!!! =)

I have been meaning to mention that Indian or not (I must say I thought it was Indian, too), this lock isn’t new - there is too much black buildup (dust + grease etc) inside it.

Now, I have found the lock in a catalogue page posted by macs_07 - check out lock #2478 :

I stand corrected,It does indeed look like a Benjamin Walters lock from looking at the catalog. I do have to say though that it does look like something that comes out of Pakastan for the tourist trade. Nice lock never the less and I would think that the value would be higher in the $35-$50 doller range . Mark:wink:

Agreed that it looks like ‘tourist trinket’ from Pakistan/India - especially in the pics I provided. When holding it in real life, there are a few telltale signs of craftsmanship that is a little better than what one would expect from ‘trinket-grade’ locks from India or Pakistan.

That said, I still thought it was from India, but having the benefit of being able to look inside the lock, I could tell it had some age to it.

It was quite a surprise to spot it today, as I was browsing through the catalogue pages posted by macs_07.

This just goes to show what a rich resource this site has become, as content has accumulated over time. I doubt I would ever have learned the maker of this lock unless macs_07 had uploaded those catalogue pages.

That is a nice little padlock - glad you picked up on the posting of the catalog.

I had always meant to make up one of the advertising boards with a selection of small padlocks - ongoing project.

These are some that I have managed to put aside.
