Having another clear out and found two mystery parts in with some Tann stuff-key blanks and stems etc
First is a chunky steel spur gear very faintly marked Tann, but doesn’t ring any bells. It’s 3.5 inches diameter, 0.6” thick, 0.75” bore with a 0.25” keyway
Had assumed it’s from an SRD but certainly can’t recall working on anything geared of this size. My hope, albeit unlikely, is that it’s a left over from the Bank of Greece door, although how it got here would be a bigger mystery :-D
Second are two large flanged oilite bronze bearings, also faintly marked tann but metric at 50mm bore, 60mm OD x 40mm deep with a 70mm flange. Got nice spiral oil grooves down the bore.
This one’s baffled me as despite doing lots of hinge work on safes and srd’s I’d remember something of this size.
Not convinced it’s from a hinge as it’s so large something this size would need at least beefier phosphor bronze or roller bearings- this is clearly porous oilite.
So my guess is possibly from boltwork? But off what as the big Tann gov and MoD grade 1A doors that I saw did use similar, but always had big ball races on all the heavier boltwork action points.
The lighter actions that had similar bushes were much smaller, and from memory either phosphor or leaded, so it’s still a bit of a mystery.
