I just had a quick look at the SMP website.
They seem to have had a bit of a makeover, and look very modern.
And apparently make a grade 6 safe.
When were you working at SMP?
They were making the community euro range up to grade 5 back then, but were still producing the original heavy range stuff like the Anglian, Halesfied, Jeweller, Bankers etc. think they’ve dropped all those long ago and as you say they’ve been revamped and the euros are now up to grade 6.
Community’s were white with the big blue SLS style boltwork handwheels, with colours like metallic greens, gold and bronze for the halesfields and jewellers ranges, and some had all brass fittings including handwheel, comb locks, escutcheons etc.
They were distinctive and very well built- also the bottom faces of the hinges (facing down) were heavily chamfered to deter roller prybar and hydraulic jacking, which I notice the current community range have no longer got.
No idea whats happening now, i was area engineer covered lockouts, repairs, service and emergency so wasn’t based in the factory, it was all out on site and on the road and very long hours.
Covered south wales and west wales plus a bit round the edges for about 15 years or so, probably till around 2004/5 but not sure exactly it’s a long time ago now.
