I’m reaching out to see if someone can provide guidance on the steps I should take to adjust the door on a Halls safe I just acquired.
The safe closes but once closed is very difficult to open - so much so that I can’t really open the door without putting upwards pressure on the handle with a jack. My guess is that the door - though supported by the hinges - is resting on one of lower steps.
I chalked the lower step and the weight seems to strike the left (opposite side of hinge) half of the door. Thus I’m guessing if the door needs to be shimmed or the hinges adjusted, the adjustment should start on top.
I’ve sent direct messages to some of our local experts but hate to burden them all the time so I thought I’d try to query this group who have often been very helpful. I’ll follow this message with some pictures to give an idea what we are dealing with.
One thing in particular I’d like to know is if the door hinge pins ride on a ball bearing.
