Properly-Priced Vault Door

From time to time there are vault doors for sale on eBay. Prices are usually in the range of $10,000 or higher, and the purchaser pays to remove it and haul it away. I joke that the only thing missing is the minus sign on the price, meaning the seller should be paying the purchaser to get rid of it.

Here’s one that you could argue involves a fair price, 99 cents. eBay auction 403193108708 “Bank vault Door Made By The Mosler Company” for a rusty Mosler Century door that looks like it’s missing a few pieces. As usual, the buyer removes it and takes it away.

So what is a fair price for a Diebold door about 4″ thick with the frame complete that is already removed? Probably late 70’s to 80’s manufactured. I’m thinking of letting go of one I have just laying around.

That’s a very difficult question to answer. I expect that used doors are pretty useless to a new bank (there have been a few exceptions). So you’re left with people who might want it just as a collectable, or for a home vault, and so on. My best guess is to ask for a few thousand dollars and see what happens.
