stephane Hi guys. hard time with the pandemic to find safes too but unexpected discover next to switzerland in french alps. from a 2 generation dutch family. i suspect this safe had made a complete planet tour before falling in a cottage in the alps ! i found photos on the web of “herring & co safe” and “herring hall marvin” so wondering if there is a link between this 2 manufacturers ? i saw a number behind the handle but forgot to write. can remove and post if help. i don’t know what’s meaning “sole agents” under names on the door. unfortunately no originals wheels but i have cast iron just need to check if i can install. i will be happy with details and periode of manufacture. merci beaucoup
Doug MacQueen Yes the connection is the earlier Herring safe company of New York merged with the Hall and Marvin safe companies in the 1890’s. I see what you mean about world travel. A U.S. made safe first in the Philippines and then to Europe. Sole agent means they are the only sales representative for HHM in that country.
