need details to restore american safe on wheels !

Hi guys. i started the restoration of an antique american safe some months ago and now have time to progress but need details : first i am not sure on the manufacturer, there is a number on the lever handle (58028) and do not know if it’s a serial number or other ? is it possible to know the date of manufacture ?
on the photo accessories are removed but it is complete (except the end screws decorative caps on pivots). as you can see, this is a massacre paint job ! the only advantage for the previous owner is that is wife don’t ask him paint work in his house !
is it possible to change the combination on this lock ?
Very exciting to restore this safe, my favorite with the Milners !

Hi guys, just realize that i probably not provide enough details for manufacturer and period !
the safe is close to be finish and wait the brand name for apply the matching decal on the door.
25 ¾ 650mm high
16.5 420mm wide
17.5 440mm depth
the combination run 1 to 100
after some research on the web, look close to J.Baum with the flat head of the handle but i want to be sure.

Is that the original dial and handle?

If I could see a picture of the inside of the door showing the lock and bolt work I might recognize it.

yes David, this is the original dial and handle.

The safe is a J.Baum Safe and lock Co. This is there own lock. Very much like Yale OB style lock. L4-R3-L2-R1 is the dialing sequence.

thanks for confirmation. I’ve had same info from elsewhere so now i am sure and will do the right decal. I am open to hi deg photos of J.Baum front door design

Yes, that is definatly a Baum lock. Although the safe could be a Warth Baum, J Baum, or Baum Safe & Lock Co.
