denmark219 I bought this safe used (obviously) online and am trying to identify the manufacturer and possibly the year range. I have the combination and it works pretty smoothly. I’m going to go through the mechanism and clean it up to hopefully make it a little smoother. Anyways, do any of you recognize this safe? The hinges are interesting because they aren’t welded to the face, they are part of the door and halfway recessed into the case. I can barely make out a number on the handle (12078??), and otherwise can’t find any other markings. I can see some pin-striping and what looks like a big rectangle above the dial on the door, but otherwise hard to make out. The only safes that seem to be similar are Mosler safes? but I have zero background in this field. Thanks in advance for the help! If a pic of the mechanism helps, let me know I can post that too.
T Davison The safe that you have is a HHM made in the 1920 to 1940s . The bigger problem is the tear gas system that you have on the door. The silver box on the inside of the door is a very nasty chemical that will cost some real health problems. Look up Chloropicrin . If the case contain a glass vile with a clear to yellow liquid, that is Chloropicrin. Hope this helps Tim
denmark219 Thank you for the help! It looks like the safe had been in a fire as all the paint on the front looked charred. I was able to remove the tear gas mechanism and discharge the glass cylinder. A local locksmith told me just to throw a brick at it… wasn’t loving that idea.
denmark219 Is there any place on the internet that would have the HHM catalogs from the past? I’d be curious just to look through them.
