This is similar to a lock I asked about back in 2006. It looks like I’m missing a couple of the internal parts, and I’m also trying to figure out how the spring on the latch is supposed to be set up.
Here is a picture of how it looks on the door:
This shows the inside of the latch:
As you can see, there are three round holes on the cover: the large one is for the main knob, the smallest is for the screw that holds the cover on, and the medium sized one is, I suppose, for a secondary knob that opens the latch. I’m also missing what I assume is a “stopworks” button. If I understand things correctly, the stopworks button freezes the latch but the secondary knob can open the latch whether or not the stopworks is engaged.
So my first question is this: are all these assumptions correct?
If so, it seems that the latch spring is set up improperly. Here’s a better look at it:
It looks like the spring would get in the way of the stopworks mechanism.
So help me out here, folks. How is this latch supposed to be set up?
