I live in Australia and I am currently renovating a house. In doing so I found a safe at the bottom of the house (see attached photos). It looks quite old and I am trying to find out what it is and when it was built.
The safe is missing the lock assembly and box for the right hand door, on the inside. (This is probably where the maker details would have been.) It is also missing an “M” on the outside. However, the lock assembly and box, and "M"s for the left hand side are present.
After doing a bit of research on the Internet, I am quite confident that this is a Milner safe made in the UK in Victorian times and possibly dates from around 1880/1900. It would also have been manufactured in the Midlands where all the steel works were at that time.
I was hoping you that you may have information and be able to tell me something about this safe, and perhaps confirm my assumptions above. I intend on selling it in the future but I would like to establish the maker details before working out a price.
