Ratner tri bolt lock

Am calling it this as I don’t know the official name of this lock , if anyone has any literature or info on it, it would be much appreciated.

This lock is also illustrated in Tony Beck’s Lock Collector Issue 19 as No.47313, a two-stump wedge bolt lock with incredibly close gate. The B B on the block could refer to Branch Bank Safe which was triple locked.

Numbers 47000 were made in 1928, just like me.

This one was bottom lock on a srd that had two locks fitted. I will have to see if I can find my old keyways mags, cheers.

Is it for locking 3 way bolt work?

yes mate, locking downwards with main bolt and the two side wedges blocking the up and downward moving bolt rails.

Good, solid system. Ratner have made some wonderful kit.

I’ve heard them referred to as the Ratner Violence lock, I doubt that was the official name though.

That article is very interesting. One bit which puzzled me was :

“ It’s understood that a lock should have either false notches or an anti-pressure device, but not both”. Would someone explain, please?

The Ratner catalogues of the 1920’s refer to “most improved lever locks” in the Grade 6
and 7 range instead of the usual 7 and 9 lever locks. I can’t find anything else which might
cover this design and it fits in with the vertical tail straps in these safes.
