I’m working with the safe pictured, and I would like to determine the weight. I’ve found a brochure online that matches the size exactly, but the rating seems different. (Class V3 vs 240-280 resistance points).

I’ll speculate “Kos” in the brochure is referring to Kilos? I’ve research “dwt” but I’m unsure of what unit of weight this is?

2500 kilos and the 49 ¼ is hundredweight (cwt) long 112 Lbs though, not short US 100.
2500 kg = 5500 lbs = 49.1 cwt

So, a misprint on the brochure. I still had to look up “hundred weight” as I never heard of it, never mind long and short.

What’s the difference between Class V3 in the brochere and 240-280 resistance points on the safe’s label? I also attached a similar label that shows 16 as the prod. year? Not sure what that means? I assumed these safes were from the 70s and 80s?

David the Rosengrens V3 and others like the RHS, Saturnus etc were covered in some detail in the Ultimate freestanding safes thread- starts on pages 14 and 15 and goes from there.

All those old Scandinavian and Nordic ratings are long obsolete now- so V3, SS3000, INSTA 610 and resistance points etc are of little relevance today.

John (Safeman) added a wealth of knowledge in that thread on Rosengrens, Tann and Stratford and the link with A.B Vardeskydd who manufactured certain Nordic models for Intersec, some which carried UL ratings relevant to your USA market.

Hello Huw, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. The SIS standard document that John/Safeman posted is invaluable. An excellent description of the V class testing. I found a Swedish insurance document that recommends amount limits. Better yet it answers may question why the Rosengrens brochure states a V3 rating vs. the safe’s label 240-280 rating.

If the insurance document dates are correct the safe brochure was printed in the early stages of mfg. sometime before 1978. Further more the safe’s label indicates a mfg. date between 1978 and 1986.
