I am new to this forum and am excited and interested in learning more about the safe I have acquired. I am interested in J&J Taylor Company history as well.
The measurements of the safe are:
The size of the safe is:
28 inches from front to back
It is 41 inches tall (40 ¾ inches exactly)
The width is 34 ½ inches wide
The size of of the door is:
29 ⅜ inches wide
30 ¼ inches tall
5 ⅞ inches thick
The opening of the wooden inside is:
21 inches wide
22 ½ inches tall
it is obvious to me that the handle and combination have been replaced something back in the day. Perhaps replaced with Sargent & Greenleaf?
i was told this safe may date back to the late 1800s but have no clear evidence of that being true.
This safe has been repainted black over time with black. I suspect that perhaps the lettering in the front has been repainted on as well but that it looks not my guess as I am unable to find an original safe with the original painted on lettering
I look forward to it participating in this forum.
