I am not a collector or an expert of any kind. I have found a large key – possibly brass or bronze – and I’m simply curious about it’s origin and use. It is approximately 6″ (15.2 cm) in length, has a solid tubular shaft, and seems to be in one piece (as opposed to some of the more ornate keys I’ve seen, which appear to have been welded together). The “teeth” of the key are approximately 1.25″ (3.2 cm) tall, and resemble two capital E designs, with the horizontal lines facing inward to one another.
I do not have my camera with me as I am on business travel, but I’m so curious about this key that I had to post my question. I will try to post an image upon my return home but, in the meantime, does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks kindly.
