My grandfather was given an old safe many years ago and as far as we, and the previous owners, know it hasn’t been opened and no one knows the combination. Its been in storage for a good twenty+ years and I ran across it when I was getting some old boxes out. We have no idea what is in it, if anything, nor how old it actually is or really where it came from other than the previous owners didn’t wanna cart it around (they said they found it in an old building they’d purchased and that, and a few other random objects, came with it).
It has, on the dial, “York Safe & Lock Co.” and in the middle of that writing is “YORK PA”
On the bottom of the door it has the same writing, “York Safe & Lock Co. YORK PA” and beneath that writing is “The Hermann Safe Co., AG’ST.,” and beneath that, “SAN FRANCISCO, CAL.”
On the back of the safe, “YORK SAFES” is written on the top section.
Its pretty heavy, I’m no good at weight estimations, but thank goodness for wheels, no matter how rusty at least they work! I’d love to get some information on it, if anyone has any info I’d really appreciate it. I’d take it to a locksmith but my grandfather hates the idea of anyone drilling into it or anything like that. I’m not seeing any other option to get it open though.
Not just interested in getting it open, either, ANY information on the safe is GREATLY appreciated! 🙂 I’ve put some pictures below, if someone needs better shots just let me know and I’ll run out and take them. Thanks in advance!
