Hello everyone, I’m brand new here.
My name is Daniel and I’m a student film maker. My niche has turned out to be making silent films and one project that I’m developing is a Buster Keaton-esque comedy called “The Locksmith’s Apprentice” about, surprisingly - a locksmith and his apprentice.
I’ve been researching 1920’s keys, locks, locksmithing and locksmith shops (as a big portion of the short film takes place in the shop) and this seemed like the most logical stop - a spot full of experts and collectors! Are there any resources available where I can find out more about the subject? From poking around on the internet I’ve come up with only a few pictures and bits of information. Does anyone have any idea/leads/pictures/resources that may help me?
I’m looking for information on things like :
what key cutting machines looked like back then / how were they operated
what did locksmith shops look like in the 20’s / what tools would you see in their shops
what common keys in the 1920’s look like / what kind of key rings did they use
and importantly to the story and hardest to find out : how did customers place and pick up their orders.
any help would be greatly appreciated!
