Thanks for posting this- another interesting old patent combination lock that we’d never get to see over here on the old British safes.
I couldn’t help but notice an area of the bolt work though-
the retaining nut holding the back of the bolt throw spindle, the ‘talon’ cut-out in the cross bar where the cam engages, and the cam itself.
Wooaah, looks like it’s had a bit of a hard life!
The cross bar looks to have been badly (make that appallingly) chain drilled to provide the cut-out for the cam…and left like it!
Not the smoothest of bearing surfaces for any moving parts by any stretch of the imagination! Also I’m counting I think it’s 17 centre punch dents to hold the retaining nut on the spindle, not to mention the random hammer marks on the cross bar above it…Please tell us this that all this was before the restoration…
It sure is a nice old safe though.
