Seeing the model of a Ratner Strong Room Door from the Exhibition sent me back into my photographic archives where I managed to find the attached.
I made this model sometime around the pre-decimal mid-fifties to demonstrate how an automatic
anti-explosive device could be retro-fitted to old safes providing that they had an angle-framed lock case.
It turned out to be worth more than a thousand words as we were given the job of upgrading the Milner List 5 safes
in the 300 or so branches of the Clydesdale Bank.
This image showed the result of the keylock having been displaced by whatever means with the live
re-locker already in position.
Being the Ratner Agents for Scotland it is not surprising that, apart from the round bolts, there is a strong resemblence to the Grade 3.
There is a very sad ending this however. The model was stolen from our workshop by a member of staff but could never be proven and even more sadly it was never recovered.
