Help/advice needed on an old safe

Hello,

I was recently given an old style safe that I was hoping to restore and ultimately use. The safe was made by the National Safe and Lock Company and it say Yale on the dial. I do not know the combination so I was hoping someone could help me figure out the combination? Also I’d love to learn any history about the company and safe in general. All replies are appreciated!

Try this. Your combination is: Right, 5X to ____________
Left, 4X to ____________
Right, 3X to ____________
Left, 2X to 43
Right, 1X to (Before you put the wheel pack back on, turn the dial and mark where it stops.)
For the first three numbers, pull the little brass clip off holding the wheels on the center post, and read the numbers, like I did from your picture.
Once you have read them and put it back together, dial it up. If it doesn’t open, dial it up again without the last number. Pull the wheel pack out and see what is not lined up.
