I spotted a neat old postcard on eBay this morning –
What caught my attention (besides not knowing about the Third National Bank in Atlanta) was the similarity with another postcard, for the Northern Trust in Chicago –
Clearly the same artwork was used, but retouched for the different banks. Northern Trust has alarm contacts at the top of the door, for example, and different small people (but one of the men appears in both images). I’m wondering if Remington Sherman provided artwork to clients for postcards, or if the postcard company did the artwork.
Things are a little confusing after trying to find where the Third National Bank was in Atlanta. On the one hand, http://www.emporis.com/buildings/166231/third-national-bank-building-atlanta-ga-usa claims it was constructed 1903-1907 which would be about right for this door, but it was demolished in the 1960s and replaced with the Andrew Young Center for Policy Studies; the nearby Fourth National Bank building was converted into http://www.emporis.com/buildings/121231/the-metropolitan-atlanta-ga-usa The Metropolitan condominiums. However, the latter web page also claims to describe the Third National Bank building (1907). See also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Metropolitan_(Atlanta_condominium_building). So if the building and vault still exist, they are probably at 20 Marietta Street.
