Schwab Safe w/ Yale Lock

Here are a few pics this safe has been in family for 30yrs and has been locked since 1965, previous owner never had it open his father passed and he never was interested in opening, my mother passed 4 yrs back she entrusted it to me! I have had 3 dreams about his safe is past year so it time to open it and put it into service who knows what is in it?? Any help would be appreciated!

I am am located in east Ky like I sated this safe hasn’t been opened in 50 plus years, the handle was broken off by me many yrs ago! I am going to recast it in zink when it is opened thanks in advance!
Anyone who can help me get it open or tell me where to find proper info to DIY opening!

There are not quick ways to DIY a safe. They are not suppose to be easy to open. That is the design. So you can start trying all combinations possible and work your way thru those, a few months and you can be in. I can say the last number should not be between 95-10 if memory holds, but I might be mistaking that lock for another. You might start with 10-20-10 and ect as some owners would pick numbers that are easy. Or if you know the dates that were important to your grandfather it might be something from there. The backstory might get you in. IF you have the time it will open.

Does anyone know the approximate age of this particular style safe I was thinking circa 1930’s?

The Yale logo would suggest early part of the 1900’s. BBE might be able to pin that down a bit.:8):

Safe logo’s were used and progressed differently, not much info on them as the safe stuff was long gone when got there. No records that I could find at Yale.

Dave from Lexington had this safe opened in about 50 minutes from driving up driveway to me turning handle! Safe hadn’t been opened best we can figure since 1959-60 was put into service about 1914 from evidence from the papers in the safe! The gentleman that originally owned safe passed away in 1960- early 1961 so time frame makes sense. 55 years since last opened when he passed no one knew the combo. Which turned out to be 4 digit combo wow!

What an excellent end to the story.

Get it cleaned up and use it. Maybe buy yourself a new car with the cash you found in the safe?
