new here looking for info on an old large 'Diebold Special' safel

Hi, I’m an amature who’s been interested in old locks, keys and safes since I was a kid. I was recently given a very large double door ‘Diebold Special’ Safe, from Canton Ohio. It’s got a beautiful hand painted scene on the front and well as elaborate pin striping all over it. How do I determine it’s age?? The serial number in on both outer handles. Inside the large double doors are two other double doors which open with a key and inside of those is ANOTHER door and two drawers that ALSO lock with a key…..theres a couple other drawers as well as numerous open square compartments.
I’m not looking to sell, just get it cleaned up and moved into my house. Besides age, is there any way to determine who painted it??

Ok…..If I get the Diebold’s Special pics I’ll send along some of a Halls Safe and Lock Company safe with ornamental trim that I’ve also got questions about.

I haven’t got pics yet, but I do have serial# and measurements. They are as follows - serial# 135 over 115418 (on the handles)

Height - 65 ¼″
Width - 36 ½″
Depth - 30 ¼″

The outer doors are 4 ⅜″ thick and are square cornered. The inside has beautiful what looks like birdseys maple…nothing has been refinished or painted….and a muti-tone red carpet across the bottom.

…obviously, it is quite heavy…..but absolutely beautiful….a real piece of art. It is unlocked but I don’t have keys or combo….which I’m close to having deciphered

Maybe someone can answer for me ‘what’ it is that designates a ’Diebold’s Special’ as ‘Special’ when compared to their other safes of the era?
