Mosler Safe Deposit Box (nest?) opinions/info/help requested

Hello folks,

New member here looking for some input and opinions. I came across this Mosler Safe Deposit Box (nest?) and was not able to find much info on the complete “nests” (correct me if that is not the correct term). I found where people are selling the individual deposit boxes and doors with keys on ebay and other websites as well as a couple complete or restored “nests”.
It is missing 3 boxes. (I think I can find these on line and atleast get close)
It is missing a two doors, one lock assembly and 3 sets of keys. (I think I found where I can buy replacement lock assemblies @ mbusa, but what about the doors?)

Questions for you guys with more experience:
What exactly do I have here?
Any guess of age or range? I was unable to find any numbers on the unit.
Is something like this worth restoring as a whole? Or parting it out? Or nothing more than scrap value? My wife was thinking of using it as a decorative end table/home safe, but Im not sure she realizes how heavy it is!!

It will come down to is it worth it to you? Street value is almost nil. I know where I can get a nest that has been sitting on a shop floor for over a decade… with keys and complete. But it just sits there. Banks are removing these more and more so there isn’t a market really. Maybe lock collectors might buy the locks if the have keys. Outside that I can’t really offer much.

If you take the doors off and mount them on a smaller box you can make piggy banks, just an idea.

Thank you for the input. I am thinking it will make a nice decorative end table/home safe in the basement with a slight restore.

Any guess as to an era that this would have been made?

I really have to say, that is a nice deposit box! And i think your wife is right: You should use it as a safe for your values. Clean it up, make it pretty again and there you have a nice security feature for your home 🙂

Thanks again for the input. Most of all I wanted to be sure I was not going to ruin some thing of value. But mostly I was hoping some one could tell me what exactly this is. What would be the correct name or description for this box and a guess at a decade?
Either way I think it will be a neat piece I knew nothing about!
