Hi Ian, I don’t think your safes a Chubb- unfortunately it’s got all the signs of a bottom end safe by another maker which was just (possibly) fitted with a Chubb lock like Chubby says.
If you look back a page or so to the post on the single skin Chubb safe posted by Davenutt. The Chubbs of that age and pattern had distinctive hinges, overall they were a lot more precise shape wise, but the top and bottom knuckles overlapped the door aperture and the doors were stepped at the hinge to swing around them. Also, I’ve only seen that style of Chubb with 2 way boltwork where the hinge side bolts are also driven by the handle, whereas yours has basic fixed dog bolts.
The escutcheon on your safe and it’s basic markings, is the generic shield typical of those used by countless other makers and those using a Chubb lock. Chubb’s own escutcheons followed distinctive shape patterns over the years and were finely cast with more detail and wording.
The heads of the bolts fixing the bolt case on the door are also typical of what all the cheaper makers were using- wide flanges with slotted domes or ‘round heads’ were used by countless cheaper manufacturers. The appearance of the bolt case and thickness of the rectangular locking bolts also suggests an inferior make to me, it just hasn’t quite got the look and build you’d expect with a Chubb.
I could be wrong though, but that’s the impression I get from the photos. Like chubby says it will help to see the inside revealing the boltwork and lock that’s fitted, and sorry if it’s all been bad news.
