Mosler safe questions?

Hello,

Can anyone help me out with this? looking for information on what year it is, how much it weighs, and value. Also information in terms of restoring it.

Just looking at that horrible drip of paint on the inside of the door in picture 1. Some people really don’t take any care in any job they do!

Can’t be of any help beyond that. I do UK, not American safes.

I’m not 100% sure. I will work on getting that soon. Would it be on the outside where the handle is?

If the safe is a Mosler the serial number is probably stamped on the handle or on the “ball” the handle is attached to.

Judging weight from those pictures is risky thing to do. Measure the safe outside and inside to get a total on the steel used and times that by 42 (I think) lbs. per sq ft at 1″ thickness. Those hinge finials do not look familiar, but the lock is definitely a Yale. If the safe is a Mosler, it would likely be late 1800’s.

I was amused by two aspects of the safe that seem like mistakes. First, the horizontal pressure bar looks like it needed to have a piece machined away to clear the boltwork handle. Second, the crane hinge was notched to clear the horizontal pressure bar. This just seems out of place for a major safe maker like Mosler or York. I would tend to agree with bitbuster that the safe might be an off-brand with a Mosler lock, rather than being a Mosler safe.
