Here’s a vault door with unusual boltwork, in the Ellington Hotel, Berlin:
The building dates to the 1920s though the door could be newer than that. It looks rather over-complicated as well as unconventional. The task of deciphering the mechanics is complicated by parts being missing, probably to make the door unlockable (I do hope they keep the missing parts somewhere). In the background is a double-door safe with similar boltwork:
Given that only one of the two safe doors has glass, it’s possible the glass is not original, hence appearance was not a factor in the boltwork’s design. The vault is used for wine storage as well as dining.
