Opened an unusual one today- an old Cotwin firesafe.
Only got asked to do it a couple of days ago so haven’t had long to research but when I searched through thousands of our own file notes I couldn’t find anything. Next was a google search and same… zero.
Once opened it revealed British Head offices listed on the back of the boltcase around a logo with ‘Stolzenberg’ in the centre. I’ve since done a quick search adding the Stolzenberg but again come up with zero.
In 30 years I’ve seen similar old firesafes and chests but not one of these- and never heard of the Cotwin name- first reaction was it’s an amalgamation of ‘Cot’ being Cotterill etc but it’s fitted with whats best described as a heavy 7 lever pipe ‘morticed’ safe lock! There’s no hint of any involvement of any of our old manufacturers or makers. I took some pics on my phone but can’t upload them on here, so I can take some digicam pics when I put it all back if anyones interested, but really just wondered if anyone else out there had come across what seems a total oddball to me!
