Here’s the corkscrew change key I mentioned a while back. can’t remember what post it was on so here it is- Found it yesterday in a small box with a load of anniversary lock/key keyrings. So glad I kept this- probably been 10 years since I’ve seen it- I knew it was a classic but seeing it again it’s even better than I remembered- he’d even put the wrong end in the lock case…

Looking at the image of the change key, I would guess the wheel pack might be fine but the lock’s back cover is probably not feeling well.

That (ex)change key is a classic!

That looks like the change key for a Chubb Manifoil, which is quite likely, given the safe was on a military base, in which case you can be sure that the back cover looks just fine, the cover is built like a tank.

Yes this ones an all time classic and although the Manifoils are very well made, bear in mind this was the wrong end of the key inserted here- the wasted point or groove on the correct end of the key is what allows it to turn in the cover for setting, and it’s close fit in the cover also acts as a guide/bearing keeping the key accurately positioned. In this situation they’d rammed the wrong end of the key in the cover, so there wasn’t the groove for the key to turn in the cover, so I don’t think any of it would have been a pretty sight afterwards to be honest.

I’ve also got this one with more ‘typical’ damage, but it’s not quite in the same league as the corkscrew classic!
