looking for info on a Bristol Safe Company Safe

new member :-) Hi

found this safe in the back of the shed.

no key with it and of course it’s locked. I assume it’s empty

any suggestions if its worth getting a key made and to then use it for secure storage ??

hi rocco- you’ll need to post some pics of the actual safe for it to be identified, and help give an idea of what’s involved and whether it’s worth doing. Try and get a good clear straight-on pic of the front, as the fit of the door in the body, the style/shape of the hinges and the positioning of the handle and keyhole etc are all critical clues as to what it might be.

Not a name or badge I recognize from the UK, but hopefully some of the others down under will know. There’s a strong chance it might be a re-badged safe made by one of the more mainstream manufacturers, in which case there’s even more chance of it being recognized 🙁y):

since there’s no other replies yet I’ll just add that on seeing the picture it looks typical of the countless low-level safes of the time- bottom end of the market I’m sorry to say- looking at the hinges I’d be surprised if it has anything thicker than a ⅜″ thick door plate, with a ⅜″ hardplate. Might be ½″ maximum at best, but can’t see any problems with opening and sorting it out. The lock may have a trick up it’s sleeve but I doubt it- more than likely it’s a basic 6 or 7 lever which any locksmith should be able to pick.

As to whether it’s worth doing it’s really down to how much you like it, and how much work you can do yourself- once opened and the locks sorted it’s really just down to getting your hands dirty cleaning it up and painting. When you say ‘secure storage’ I take it you mean just casual locking up of stuff so it’s out of the way. Really basic oldies like that aren’t suitable for holding anything of any value.
