Chatwood Sam lock

I got this Chatwood Sam lock off a safe, I had a serial number list somewhere for dating does anyone know the age?

SN: * 183690

I wanted to display this lock but I have two options leave it as it is or cut ornate windows into the lock & polish up any sugetions or examples of a polished one ?

Ive mounted other lock on acylic displays but mabe this one would look better on wood & brass

I have to say the cutting holes and polishing idea sounds worrying!

I have a cnc mill to cut the holes !

I have no doubt you’ll do it very well, but once cut they are always there.

To collectors of locks such as yours, I find that the more complete they are, the more value they have. That along with the aged patina tend to drive the price higher. If you have no intention of ever selling your lock, the operational view points make a nice way of demonstrating the inner workings. I have several cut out locks in my collection, and they add to the conversation value. If this is your only one of this model, think twice before cutting into it.

Well, You could take the cover off and replace it with a piece of acrylic so that the internals could be viewed. That way you can see everything but still have the original parts whole.
