1920's Halls tall safe,

Here are some photos of my Halls safe. Estimated date around 1920. I wanted a nice classic safe to put my hunting rifles in, but did not want a box store safe like everyone else. This thing weighs about 1,500 lbs.
(6) 1″ locking bolts One on top of door and on bottom.
I looked for a year to find one in this condition. The tall ones are quite rare. It has a big S&G dial, that shines like new.

As you can see, I collect safes, here is a late 1800’s ( I believe)
Halls safe I am going to refinish. Beautiful safe functions perfectly, I fixed the safety door lock, and got keys made for all the drawers, I am going to sand and repaint and re carpet interior. The door is 6″ thick. It is 3′ tall and weighs about 800 lbs

Nice safe. It’s a bit odd that the best and fanciest part of it is hidden most of the time though!

Amusingly enough you would probably not be able to keep firearms in such a safe in the UK - regulations here stipulate that any gun cabinet should be securely bolted to a wall or floor, regardless of the weight. Quite silly really! However I have heard of cases in the US where unsecured gun safes were rolled, end-over-end, to get them out of a property and in/onto a vehicle…

Interesting, but no one will roll it away, because I have padlocks through the wheels. Also remember it weighs 1500 lb.
It took 6 men to lift onto truck, even if someone rolled it out the door, it would take a crew to get it into a vehicle.
The safe next to it weighs 2000 lb and is bolted down. So you would have to wedge it by that one as well

Yea, but I have an idea. I am thinking of cutting thick plexi glass, and size it to the door, as my inside door cover, so you will see the bolt work & etching. They really don’t make safes like this anymore.
I am also working on a custom interior with rifle stands.

I am going to keep the devider, because if stacked carefully I can fit 8 rifles on one side. I like having the shelves for ammo & accessories. I am going to mount some rifle tabs to keep it neater though.

I was at Cabelas the other day, & was really disappointed in the quality of new safes. They are so light, & the handles shake. Their big model was only 900 lb & it was 3 times the size as mine. Where is the beef,lol
Their is no play in my handle, I just love how they built things way back when.
However I do realize I would not have the fire rating of a new one.

Yea, I am seriously thinking about it. Someone had put a custom backing with fire liner. Here is how space turned out, ammo on left side guns on right. Like I said stacked carefully, I could get 8 rifles on 1 side.

I painted my business safe, got rid of that hideous pinkish tan.
So now got matching black ones.

The one on the left is not an antique obviously, but is very functional for me. Allied Gary, it was and old supermarket safe from the 80’s. I put a new S&G digital lock on it. It weighs 2,000 lbs with 1″ plated steel walls and a drill resistant hardplate over lock, with relockers. I have it bolted to a concrete floor.

Opps, just realized last post had no photo. Here is an updated photo of safe with new (proper) decals. Wheels are padlocked.
