I am writing an article for a local historical society about a very old log house in Berks County, Pennsylvania, US. There is a debate as to whether the house was constructed as early as the 1750s or as late as the early 1800s. I am hoping that someone can help me date the door lock to get a more precise feel for the age of the structure. (The photo shows the lock mounted on a board along with some of the orginal decorative molding from the interior of the house.)
Also, the area was settled mostly by German-speaking immigrants but the house displays some English features. Does this lock have any particularly German or English characteristics?
Many thanks,
Bruce Kistler
