Old Sargent and Greenleaf £ wheel anti manipulation lock help

Please see all pictures here of this Anti manip carrier wheel as I need another nylon insert ball the same as the one you see here for I think its about 3mm (though was wondering if a steel ball bearing just might suffice?) the carrier wheel to work properly as you probably know the sliding mech revolves round with the carrier wheel untill youv’e dialed you numbers in then the lever is turned on the front of the dial of the comb lock and it releases the sprug slide to expose the drop arm slot on the main body of the wheel.

I would think the steel would work, just not as lubricious. Lubricious? If you can’t get one in UK I can send you one. Doug

Many thanks Doug for your swift reply I will try and see if I can get one if not can send you the postage for one via paypal All I need then is the Dial/spindle, dial ring to make a complete one. as you know its pity useless without the ball as this stops the slider moving just that bit too far and so stopping the carrier wheel turning when the lock cap is in position. I do have one other but this is new and complete, so don’t want to split it up plus it selling on a famous web based auction site Aplogy for the plug.

Can anyone help with this 3 wh comb lock As I seem to think that it should have another drop arm main spring as once the flat metal trip arm lips over the stop button at the top of the case side the main arm is unable to drop into wheels when lined up under the fence arm
note that when carrire wheel is turned it automatically shoves the flat plate arm over the non return button lip.

There is a very small wire “S” spring that holds the fence up off the wheels until the large plate trigger spring is cocked up onto that little ledge. Pushing the dial in at 0 pushes it off and it brings the fence down with it. If the wheel gates aren’t lined up the S spring comes into play. I am pretty sure I have an extra plus the dial and ring you seek for the 8400 lock. Doug

Thanks Doug For that explanation of the drop arm action. As I thought there was a simple way round it, must be losing the plot I presume the dial would have have a coil spring around the the base of spindle at the dial?
