We occasionally see vault doors for sale on eBay, available due to rennovation, with a price of $100 and an estimated removal cost of $50,000 (example numbers). And it doesn’t sell. In at least one case the decision was then made to leave it in place and remodel around it.
A local bank went out of business here and the building was taken over by a jeweler. Perfect fit! Then the jeweler moved and a bank moved in. Sometimes things work out. A local bar is in a space that once housed a very old jewelry store and they use the vault to store liquor. Another very old bank became a women’s clothing store and the vaults were used as changing rooms after they framed in a more conventional door.
