Stephen Cox Safe

Hi Guys,
I have just started to renovate this Stephen Cox Safe. It’s going to take a bit of work but I think it’s worth it. Does anyone have an idea of age of this one. Personally, it looks 40’s or 50’s but I may be wrong !!. There is are no marks on the lock or safe to give a clue but I’m hoping someone may know some info on this.

When I get into work i’ll dig out more info on this lil baby.

However, your Cox safe has the likely date of make to be 1927 (ish). It looks, & correct me if wrong that its paint was an enamel baked on type?
The small plate is indicative of a basis Deco shape & the handle also gives off the same stylisation.

Buy the way, if you are wanting more safes for your collection…look no further.

Many thanks for your input on this one. Your right about the paint, it’s an enamel type finish baked on I think. I am going to re-paint in original colours if I can and have already cleaned up the brass work. It took a long time to strip down to bare metal but it’s looking better already. I would love to keep a collection of safe’s but don’t have the room for more. This one when finished will go for sale (if I can part with it that is), although I am always on the look out for a very small George Price’s safe as he is my safe maker hero so to speak. Look forward to any more info on this one if you can find anything out.

Thanks for the reply. I have looked at your site but can’t find the George Price Safe amongst the images. However, I have to complete two safe refurbs before I have room for any more items, and get them sold. As you are aware, it takes a bit of time to renovate these old safe’s if you want them looking good, but I will let you know when I have completed and sold them so that I can move on to a G.P. one.

I know its been a while now but just finished renovating my Stephen Cox Safe. This is the finished thing, a little better than when I got it !!

Thanks Dean, it took longer than I thought because other things take over life besides renovations. Just glad it’s done but well worthwhile :8):
