Vintage safe?

Hi all!

I’m new to the site and really pleased I’ve found a site where I can share my (some might say odd) interest with like minded people.

I have no idea where my interest in safes came from. Although I got my hands on a Samuel Withers 12 bend last year and restored it. I didn’t want to take all the original paint off, but it had so little left on it and in such a poor state I made the decision to match the colour to British standard colour chips and have paint made up. The photos don’t do the colours justice. I left some original paint on the inside, as I like the authentic and original features where possible. Really pleased with it sitting in my front room for all to admire! Any comments welcome. Any ideas what year it is?

Good job. Nice to have another safe restore person on the site. Granted the other safes are so shiney that I would hate to touch them but still nice.

As to the year you might get the numbers off the lock and that might lead to a range of dates.

What a nice resto!

Your safe is generic of the 1920’s, closer to 1927.

The body & fascia lines was also used on Perry’s & Tapp n Toothill Safes. It appears that each ‘supplier’ pretending to be a maker put their own Badge/escutcheon on. Funny i should say. We also did too…

I have a Tapp up for sale. its image is shown on our web site: www.wgsafesonline.com under antiques n collectables. I’m getting rid of a whole load of oldies if you are interested.
