milner lock

I was called to open a milner 212 safe the other day,drilled my hole as usual to find not what i expected abit of the bolt stump and abit of the lever gate.Instead all i could see was the bolt head.I beleive that the lock on this safe is not a 212 but something a little different.It has the same style of keyway as the 212 V shaped but it uses a pipe key not pin.I was wondering if anyone has a picture or measurements as to make my job a little easier.

If the safe is old enough the lock would be made by Hobbs / Aubin. The levers are quite different. The pipe key could confirm this. I will have a look and see if I have an example somewhere.

Here you go, this is an original exhibition lock. Bear in mind though there are / were lots of oddball designs and slight variation from lock to lock. Also note this lock may have an anti pressure device so you will need to carefully align the lever gates before applying tension …

Sorry to be a pain but could you measure the distance from the pin to the half gate/stump position as i would like to get it with one small hole as the customer wants to re-use the safe

Sorry, I don’t have an example of that lock to hand, but if you print off the larger version of the picture (just click on it) you would be able to scale from it without difficulty.

You will find variation depending upon the age of the safe. This design of lock was made for Milner by different firms and the Hobbs version has at least two styles of lever. You may have to go from one small to one large hole. Can you tell if there is the anti pressure device?
