Museum Key Identification

Hi all,

The History of Diving Museum just received as a donation an antique key that recently washed up on a Key Largo beach. Can anyone help to narrow down the time period and place of origin of this key, or can anyone offer educated speculation on what the key was likely used for?

Well found! That explains the cheaply plated appearance and traces of monkey-metal corrosion that appear to be coming through too.

Left behind after a barbeque perhaps?
