Identification of figural #3 key.

I recently discovered this unusual form key. I am trying to ascertain function and possible meaning/use of the #3.
Brass, ¼″ X 2 ⅜″ long, 7/16″ dia. barrel

I remember bleed keys for home radiators with similar ends but guess other valves might use similar keys.

Maybe used on a stringed musical instrument of some sort?
