Finding them is a very big problem. I know I am not the only “old schooler” locksmith out there, but my point here is, the original key would have been made by a blacksmith, so it would be preferable to have the new key blacksmith made. About 35 years ago after I started in the locksmithing trade, I became interested in blacksmithing. Unfortunately, I didn’t pursue it and now I get to be in awe of what I see others doing. So although I am 1800’s old school, mostly working in brass/bronzes, doing metal casting and machining, the blacksmith is really the “old school” locksmith. Compare my most recent scratch made cast bronze key lock and boltwork for a small 1800’s safe to the exquisite metalwork found on a 1700’s Spanish safe I had the pleasure of working on several years ago. Not that there wasn’t beautiful work in the 1800’s but that is some pretty awesome work there. Doug
