Pick Lock Keys for sale

I saw these on Ebay, maybe you guys are interested:

hurry, it ends up in one day or so.
The price seems good to me 80€ for 98 keys but I already have some pick locks and have no idea what to do with them, I saw some of these type of “keys” have huge price tags on some sites, can someone tell me why is that? Do people still use them to open old locks or are they just collectible objects? The seller says they are from 19th century.
I am curious to know more about the pick lock keys, because I have some huge ones and I wonder if they worth anything. What is the thing that makes some of these wanted, the bit, or the age, or just the idea that they are for lock picking?

I would think that keys like this are not used anymore but only of interest to the collectors. They certainly are a nice group for a collection and without people collecting things like this, they would not be around today. You seem to be finding very interesting keys and thanks for sharing with us.

You are right, Tim, I often think about how many pretty keys ended up in metal recycling, as there was no one there to appreciate them…
Yes this seemed like an extensive collection, and I’ve seen groups of common keys sell much higher than usual just because they had two or three pick lock keys among them.

Thanks for posting interesting items. Probabably not much use now, even in France. Many of these are for European locks, so mainly of interest to collectors - and people who see some glamour in having a bunch of ‘skeleton keys’/‘passepartouts’.

They may still be of use in many parts of the world. I have a set I was given 20 or 30 years ago that looked lke they were made the week before. The provider called them a Deitrick set. He had gotten an extra set for me and several for his work. He was an entry specialist for some US government agency. They might be quite useful on locked interior doors of many old buildings in Europe.
