violin shaped lock

Hi,

I am trying to find out about a lock that my father aquired at auction ~ 45 years ago, It is in the shape of a violin and approx. 12″ long. My dad always called it a gate lock. It has a key. I saw a picture of a lock that appears to be exactly like this on Jehning Family Lock Museum
page on line.

Can anyone tell me about this unique lock?
