momboking Hello i have this key and its the same one in the patent diagram from 1861,the key says Linus Yale Jr and says patent my question is how many keys are there and are they rare?

Paul Prescott Be very careful to keep the two parts togther as the key is really only a holder / carrier for the loose ‘bit’ and it is important that you have both parts.
Paul Prescott No records exist. There would never have been many made (perhaps less than a 100) as they were only for very expensive locks used in banks. I know of around 10 keys I think, and 3 locks. There will surely be more hidden away in peoples collections.

art Hi, I have the same key as pictured in the post except that it says, “L.Yale” not “Linus Yale”. Below that it says “paten”. I think the “t” didn’t get stamped. On the other side it says, “L 331”. I see that the possible value was emailed to the original poster. Can you email me what the approximate value is for this key? I realize that values keep changing and I appreciate your time and expertise. Thanks, Artie
