always hoped I’d encounter one of these but never saw a single one, despite opening, repairing and re-keying quite a lot of Hobb’s stuff.
Most of it was just the classic pillar box banded with the rolling pin hinges and Powderproof locks, so sadly leagues below these!
They look beautifully engineered with enough material to make a thousand modern tin boxes. In fact the two castings in Gary’s photo-one supporting the lever springs and the other the lever bellies and bolt thrower, look like solid bronze, god how things change- now that’s a material that’s barely even used on anything these days!
Definitely works of art -were they fitted to a variety of the top end stuff like Progress G’s, Diamond and Branch Bank’s etc, or were they mostly for SRD’s ?
