Hi Max, yes the key does throw the bolt, the curtain is just a standard one as yours is in-fact i’d even say that it would be interchangeable with yours.
Surprisingly everything is intact even the Chubb marked sticky tape that fastens the wax paper on the lock (naturally the tape has lost it’s stickiness), even the tiny screws for the escutcheon and the stapled packet for the screws are present.
The lack of false gates struck me with a surprise because Chubb usually put them on nearly all of the Detector series since the Great Exhibition, one Idea I have is it’s either a cheaper model or it was one of the last Detector locks and Chubb just lost interest.
Your last sentence made me grin a bit because it has that effect on me, I know even to this day where at least two of these locks are still present based on the Bronze escutcheons, one is on a bank and the other is on an old school building, there was one on a Barclays Bank in my town when I was a kid, the doors have been changed long ago but I can still remember it to this day, it still raises an eyebrow whenever I find any Detector lock still in it’s original setting, something about it just sings out to me to take it but i’d prefer it to stay in place, it’s a shame because I know they won’t stay there much longer.
I know where at least 3 rare detector locks are and it pains me to think that one day they will be chucked away, I could at least hope that they will appear on flea-bay one day but I won’t hold my hopes up..
