Chubb Detector lock

I thought a few of you may be interested in seeing a lock that I have been given and am in the process of restoring. it a rather large chubb detector lock that according to Peter of the chubb archives using its serial number dates it to june 1858. he is organising for me to get a key cut for it via a locksmith he knows.

Very nice. I have a 10 inch version of the same pattern, but alas no strike plate.

The serial number dates the lock to early in 1858.

I was lucky to be given both. I am at the moment having keys cut for it by a locksmith friend of Peter of the chubb archive. it will be nice to have it fully operational.

Hi geopal, That’s a very nice Detector lock and in great condition too, I just thought i’d ask that if You ever intend on selling it at any point I would be more than happy to give you well over the standard value, Also, If You do intend selling it would You be so kind as to offer it to genuine enthusiasts (Like us) first, I’d just hate to see it go to someone who doesn’t appreciate a nice piece of history like this, Truly beautiful.

I hope you manage to get the lock fully functional again.

Many thanks Kit Bear I will keep that in mind when I do decide to part company with it. In the meantime I have had it looked over by a chubb locksmith via Peter from the chubb archive. he also made me a true and false key for it so it can be fully operated.
