A 'Story Lock' question

I am doing research on ‘Story Locks’ and would appreciate any information regarding The ‘Grecian Soldier’ (see attached). I have my doubts if it was ever manufactured. If it was never manufactured does a patent model exist?

Any information would be a help.

As I understand the system then, to get a patent you had to submit a working model with the application ??

That is my understanding also. I was hoping that the patent model existed in someones collection. It would be a shame for it to be lost in history.

Hello, I’ve never seen this one out there. I didn’t see who if in fact it was ever made in the patent design you posted. I checked Eagle lock co. as they made some story padlocks and didn’t it in my copy of Eagle padlocks.

The following is a snippet from my database………

“Grecian Soldier” also known as “Ajax Gladiator”.
2 ¾″ high.
Pressed steel case brass plated.
Brass shackle.
Lever.
Flat key.
I am not able to make out the name of the soldier on the shield
(see design patent note 7),
nor do I know if the name is the same on all padlocks,
as this is the only one that I have seen.
“HIBBARD, SPENCER, BARTLETT & CO.” is stamped on the obverse of the shackle.
“PAT 1/31/99, PAT 10/10/99” is stamped on the reverse of the shackle.
“D10”← is stamped on the reverse of the shackle.
